EMSE 3124 MATH METHODS IN ELEMENTARY AND MIDDLE SCHOOL EDUCATION

Elementary and middle school education candidates seeking certification to teach mathematics (K-6 and K-6, 5-8) will develop mathematical concepts and practices emphasized in the NJSLS-M Standards for Mathematical Practice. Candidates will plan and facilitate learning experiences that support student sensemaking through discourse, problem-solving, critical thinking, and perseverance. The course includes research-based practices and developmentally effective instructional strategies for K-8 learners, guided by Universal Design for Learning principles. Candidates will create and evaluate math lessons, learn assessment techniques, integrate literacy and technology, address diverse learning needs, and support equitable engagement in mathematics.
