Offered Fall Semester OnlyThis course applies the general theories of curriculum and instruction to the teaching and learning of mathematics at the middle and secondary level. The course prepares teacher-candidates to teach the two peer lessons required for EDU 371. The course uses the paradigm of the reflective practitioner and aims to teach students how to apply the research and theories of a mathematics curriculum in an urban setting, using student-centered instructional strategies. Coursework emphasizes acquisition of skills, orientations, and knowledge of reflective urban teachers and focuses on ways to organize instruction and develop materials that make all students' active learners, preparing prospective mathematics teachers to work with urban students of diverse cultural and national backgrrounds and learning abilities.
