SW 4100J GSP I-Engage Assess & Plan
This is the first course in a two-course sequence focused on social work practice. Participation in this course will provide students with theory and knowledge related to general social work practice. Emphasis will be on engagement, assessment, and planning with individuals, families, groups, organizations, and communities. Students will understand how knowledge, skills, values, critical thinking, and reflection facilitate effective engagement and assessment with clients. Students will learn about the strengths-based perspective, motivational interviewing, and how to use various assessment tools to formulate interventions for clients. Students will also consider multi-cultural and environmental influences in engagement and assessment. (Previously NJCU Course SWK-410)
