Offered Fall Semester OnlyThis course applies the general theories of curriculum and instruction in English language arts to middle and secondary English teachers. The course prepares students to teach the two peer lessons required for EDU 371. The course uses the paradigm of the reflective practitioner and aims to teach students how to apply the research and theories of an integrated language arts curriculum to an urban setting, using student-centered instructional strategies. Course work emphasizes acquisition of skills, orientations, and knowledge of reflective urban teachers and focuses on ways to organize instruction and develop materials that make all students active learners, preparing prospective teachers to work with urban students of diverse cultural and national backgrounds and learning abilities.
