EMSE 5100J Rethink Canon Lit Mid Sch &Sec
This course focuses on the teachng of the taditional literary canon in the urban middle school and secondary English language arts classroom The course will explore the history and politics of the literary canon, as well as strategies for successfully using the traditional canon in an urban classroom. The bulk of class time will be spent 1) reading and analyzing new theoretical approaches to literature and 2) reading and anallyzling new and diverse approaches to canonical literary texts. The course will also focus on pedagogical strategies for bringing new critical/theoretical approaches to canonical literature into the urban classroom (Previously NJCU Course EDU-610)
