PA 5245 MANAGING INFORMATION SYSTEMS IN THE PUBLIC SECTOR

This graduate-level course provides an in-depth understanding of management information systems (MIS) and their application in the public and nonprofit sectors. The course explores how organizations collect, store, analyze, and manage information to enhance performance, transparency, and service delivery. Students will examine key topics such as digital governance, data management, open government, citizen-centered service design, cybersecurity, and AI integration. Through a combination of theory and practice, the course emphasizes how emerging technologies shape organizational capacity, decision-making, and accountability in public service contexts. Hands-on exercises using real-world datasets and policy cases will help students apply MIS principles to practical public management problems.
