Marriage and Family Therapy, M.A.
Program Description
Marriage and Family Therapy is a professional training program designed to prepare students for licensure as a marriage and family therapist in New Jersey. The program includes a two-term practicum and focuses on understanding the varied religious, ethnic, cultural, and national characteristics of marriage and family therapists' clientele.
Prerequisites
In addition to the University’s admission requirements:
- 12 credits in the Behavioral Sciences (at least six of which are in psychology including General Psychology) (These courses may be taken as co-requisites)
Degree Requirements
- 63 Credits
- 500 Clinical Hours - Students accrued the clinical contact hours by providing individual/couple/family therapies through their internship
- 100 Supervision Hours - Students receive at least 100 hours of systemic supervision from AAMFT Approved Supervisors.
- Comprehensive Exam - Students should take the comprehensive exam in their last semester of the master's program. Marriage and Family Therapy students should transcribe a video or audio-taped session that is approximately 50-60 minutes long and follow the instructions provided by the academic department.
