Biology, B.A.: Dual Certification for Teacher of Students with Disabilities and P-12 Biology Option

Students who wish to be certified in both Biology P-12 and Educator of Students with Disabilities should consult the Catalogue under Special Education programs for information on admissions and grade requirements for this dual certification program. Students choosing this option must make a formal application for admission to the Department of Special Education. Prior to taking Special Education courses, all prerequisites must be met.

It requires submission of application to the Teaching Performance center (TPC) and a passing score on the Praxis I core. Clinical I and II must be done back to back and in consecutive semesters.

SPED 3000: Writing Emphasis (WE) course. edTPA-This Performance Assessment is required and is completed during Clinical Practice II (Senior Field). Beginning in September 2019, all students must earn the state's qualifying score.

Senior Level

EMSE 4811CLINICAL II IN SUBJECT AREA INSTRUCTION K-12

EMSE 4811: Clinical I and II must be done back to back and in consecutive semesters. Requires submission for application to the Teaching Performance Center (TPC). Clinical II Prerequisite: Passing score on the Praxis II. As an NJDOE requirement, Clinical II must be done in the final semester prior to graduation and taken in conjunction with EDUC 4000, the capstone education class. Any additional coursework left to that final Clinical II semester is discouraged and may only be done with the written permission of the Dean of Education. All students are highly encouraged to complete all course requirements beyond EMSE 4811 (Clinical II) and EDUC 4000 prior to this final Clinical II semester, as remaining credits (even if only a few) will delay the NJDOE's issue date of the Certification of Eligibility with Advanced Standing.
